# Workflow Settings

Use **Workflow Settings** to define the steps your end-users must complete during Hosted KYC.

At a minimum, every workflow must start with an identity document step. After that, you can add optional checks such as **Face Authentication** or **Background Screening**.

**Important** You must add either **Mandatory ID Scanning** or **User’s Choice ID Scanning** before you can add **Face Authentication** or **Background Screening**.

### Step 1: Add your onboarding steps

Hosted KYC supports the following workflow steps:

* **Mandatory ID Scanning**
* **User’s Choice ID Scanning**
* **Background Screening**
* **Face Authentication**

Some document-level options are available inside the ID scanning step, such as **Lookup** and **NFC**, when supported.

### Mandatory ID Scanning

Use **Mandatory ID Scanning** when the end-user must provide specific documents that you define.

This option is best when your onboarding policy is strict and there is no document choice.

<figure><img src="https://1201843429-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F0JZZSvL3DmX19a9SgDAt%2Fuploads%2FFHrb65p75X6PkTUaPNsE%2FScreenshot%202026-04-01%20124004.png?alt=media&#x26;token=57fb550d-2468-4433-8704-209b9b1583b4" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

### User’s Choice ID Scanning

Use **User’s Choice ID Scanning** when you want to offer more than one document option and let the end-user choose one of them.

For example, you may allow the end-user to choose between:

* passport
* national ID
* residence permit

This option is useful when you want to improve completion rates while still limiting the journey to supported documents.

### Age Verification

You can enable **Age Verification** for supported documents and define a **minimum age**.

When Age Verification is enabled, the onboarding checks whether the document holder meets the minimum age you configured for that document.

This verification is performed using the date of birth field in the ID document.

**Recommended usage:**

* Enable Age Verification only when there is a real business or compliance need.
* Set a clear minimum age, such as **18**.
* Keep the configured age aligned with your internal policy.

### NFC

You can enable **NFC** only when all of the following apply:

* the selected document supports NFC
* the Hosted KYC channel is **Mobile App**
* the NFC feature is enabled for your account

When NFC is enabled, users with supported devices are required to complete the NFC reading step.

Use NFC when you want stronger verification based on the chip inside a supported identity document.

### Lookup

You can enable **Lookup** only when all of the following apply:

* the selected document supports Lookup
* the Hosted KYC channel is **Mobile Browser**
* the Lookup feature is enabled for your account

Use Lookup when your onboarding requires a government for that document type.

Note: this feature only available in a few select countries and will require special configuration, contact your uqudo representative before enabling it.

### Background Screening

Use **Background Screening** when your onboarding requires AML or similar screening checks.

Depending on your account setup, this section may include options such as:

* **Monitoring**
* **Disable consent**
* **Skip view**

If you are not sure which options to enable, align the configuration with your compliance or operations team.

### Face Authentication

Use **Face Authentication** when you want to compare the end-user’s selfie with the face shown on the identity document.

You can also define the maximum number of attempts allowed within a single onboarding session.

This step adds an additional layer of assurance that the person completing the journey matches the submitted document.

### Step 2: Save your workflow

After you finish configuring your workflow:

1. review the selected steps and document settings
2. click **Save** **workflow**
3. test the journey before sharing it with end-users

<figure><img src="https://1201843429-files.gitbook.io/~/files/v0/b/gitbook-x-prod.appspot.com/o/spaces%2F0JZZSvL3DmX19a9SgDAt%2Fuploads%2FpiKe3i1pirJrRZpRPdXM%2FScreenshot%202026-04-01%20130234.png?alt=media&#x26;token=50540c3e-ad70-4c22-96a5-75812502ad2a" alt=""><figcaption></figcaption></figure>

**Note:** If you need to remove the main ID scanning step later, remove any dependent steps such as **Background Screening** or **Face Authentication** first.
